Kicks, Grails & Laces x Essence Fest Weekend

Kicks, Grails & Laces x Essence Fest Weekend

Earlier this month K&F had the pleasure of attending Essence Fest in NOLA! Kicks & Fros teamed up with Her Grails (Tausha & Wendy) and Thick Laces (Essie) to host Dinner with Friends for 25 bosses, entrepreneurs, writers, and creators. Together we held space to break bread, network, and learn more about how we show up for our communities. Gathering around creole cuisine for dinner in the heart of the French Quarter at Mr. B’s Bistro was just *chef’s kiss* Thank you to Stella Artois and Cantu Beauty for sponsoring and helping us bring our vision to life. Also, shoutout to New Balance and Reebok for gifting our guests with gear!

The NOLA sneaker community showed up and showed out at the Kicks, Grails & Laces Mixer hosted the next day at Sneaker Politics. It was the perfect setting for the ladies to connect, meet new faces, and reconnect with people we hadn’t seen for a while!

Not sure who needs to hear this but shooting your shot goes for your social and professional life too. The brainchild of this event came to life in the DMs (s/o to Essie co-founder of Thick Laces)!

Our CKO Melissa Chanel is always looking for ways to connect with like-minded women. “When Essie came to us with the idea it was a no brainer! I love what both Thick Laces & Her Grails is doing for the sneaker community & streetwear culture, so it was an instant yes. We’re stronger together and it’s always collaboration over competition for me! I’m thankful to share space with these amazing founders and creators. Our Dinner was a hit, and we already have a request for us to bring it back next year!”

As the saying goes there’s nowhere that feeds your soul quite like Louisiana. And needless to say, Dinner with Friends and the Kicks, Grails & Laces Mixer fed our souls in so many ways! Essence Fest weekend above all is a celebration of black women, community and culture.

The Dinner with Friends and Kicks, Grails & Laces Mixer events were both an extension and an ode to the original essence of the weekend while carving out a place for women within the sneaker and streetwear community specifically.

“I have collaborated with a lot of people and this partnership with Kicks & Fros, and Thick Laces may have been the most rewarding. We all gelled so well and worked together so easily.  I love that we had 3 powerful brands join forces to bring something so needed in the sneaker and streetwear industry to life. Both the Dinner With Friends and Kicks, Grails & Laces Mixer was a huge success, I cannot wait to work with both Melissa and Essie again. We definitely built a sisterhood and friendship that I will be forever grateful for.” -Tausha (Co-founder of Her Grails)

It's forever sneakers and sisterhood over everything! We give thanks for the opportunity to bring the NOLA sneaker community together, but also for all those involved in making the events a success! Impact is amplified when we come together, and we can’t wait for the next event!
